Borotron® - Borated High Density Polyethylene
Borotron from Quadrant Engineering Plastic Products is a high-density polyethylene (HDPE) formulation with 5% elemental boron that provides enhanced neutron shielding. Borated HDPE (the combination of boron within a matrix of HDPE, a naturally hydrogen-rich material) is an ideal product for medical and industrial neutron shielding applications. Borotron is a light-weight, cost-effective, and easily fabricated solution for a wide variety of neutron shielding needs.
Borotron, in sheet form, is used for shielding in radiation therapy rooms, nuclear research facilities, nuclear power plants, nuclear powered ships, and in spacecraft exposed to radiation.
Borotron is available in 48" x 96" x 1” (122 x 245 x 2.5cm) sheet from stock, with other custom sizes and boron concentrations available upon request. Borotron is made in the U.S.A. with virgin high density polyethylene using state-of-the-art processes that result in precise tolerances with consistent boron dispersion and material density. Borotron can be manufactured to MIL-P-23536A and to Shipyard standards.
TIVAR® 1000 – Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene
TIVAR 1000 and TIVAR H.O.T. (High Operating Temperature) from Quadrant Engineering Plastic Products are ultra high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMW) materials that provide neutron shielding in a variety of applications.
TIVAR 1000 is a light-weight, cost-effective, and easily fabricated solution for a wide variety of neutron shielding needs. TIVAR 1000 is available in natural and custom colors, and is available in oversize sheets as well as three standard sheet sizes:
- 48" x 96" sheets with gauge sizes ranging from 1/16" to 6"
- 48" x 120" sheets with gauge sizes ranging from 1/16" to 6"
- 60" x 120" with gauge sizes ranging from 3/8" to 1"
TIVAR 1000 is also available as extruded rod, board, tube, profiles and compression molded parts. All can be manufactured and colored to your exact specifications.
TIVAR 1000 sets the standard for engineered polymers with a unique combination of wear and corrosion resistance, low friction surface and impact strength. It is resistant to chemical attack and moisture absorption, and retains key physical properties to -30° C
In addition to shielding applications, TIVAR 1000 is used in numerous other industries including agriculture, bottling, canning, food processing, packaging, material handling, and waste water treatment.
TIVAR® H.O.T. – Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene for High Operating Temperature
TIVAR H.O.T. is formulated to maintain key performance properties in an extended temperature range. It will excel in a variety of industrial manufacturing environments where temperatures range up to 275° F, nearly 100° higher than competing UHMW-PE formulations. TIVAR H.O.T. reduces the oxidization rate of the material at higher temperatures thereby slowing material degradation and extending wear-life in chemical, elevated temperature and thermo-cycling environments. In many applications, TIVAR H.O.T. will last up to 10 times longer in higher temperature environments and has excellent wear and release characteristics.
TIVAR H.O.T. is also a great material for use in conveyor systems or other equipment that is frequently exposed to chemical washdowns in such industries as poultry/meat processing and packaging.
TIVAR H.O.T. is naturally white in color and available in the following standard sizes:
- 48” x 120” sheets with gauges ranging from 1/16” to 6”
- 48” x 240” sheets with gauges ranging from 3/4” to 3”
Other sizes are available on request. TIVAR H.O.T. can also be extruded in a variety of standard and custom profiles. |
